Most of the time, overuse of the shoulder causes inflammation of the bursa between the rotator cuff and part of the shoulder blade, this bone is better known as the acromion. What results in this is a condition called subacromial bursitis. It is a frequently occurring in related to a rotator cuff tendonitis. The wide variety of tissues in the shoulder can become inflamed and painful. Several of your daily activities could cause a lot of pain with this condition, such as combing your hair or getting dressed.
Tendonitis usually occurs in these two cases:
Acute tendonitis: Doing a lot of throwing or other overhead activities, at work or sports, can lead to acute tendonitis.
Chronic tendinitis: Degenerative diseases, such as osteoarthritis or repetitive wear and tear due to age, can lead to chronic tendonitis.
When it is the case that the tendons are torn or split we have as a result acute injuries or degenerative changes in the tendons this thanks to the aging of the tendon, prolonged excessive use, continuous wear and tear, or a sudden injury. These tears can be minor, or they could completely damage the tendon by breaking it into two pieces.
When we refer to compression in the neck, it is caused when the upper part of the shoulder blade exerts enough pressure on the underlying soft tissues, when the arm is lifted away from the body. As the arm is raised, the acromion rubs compresses the rotator cuff tendons and bursa. This can undoubtedly cause bursitis and tendonitis at the same time, causing a lot of pain and making movement difficult. Over time, compression can cause a tear.
When the head of the arm bone comes out of the shoulder socket it is known as instability. This can be caused by an accident or by using it too much.
A subluxation occurs when the spheroidal part of the arm only partially comes out of the socket, the dislocations can be partial. When the spheroidal part completely comes out of the cavity it is known as a complete dislocation.
Another common cause of the shoulder that can cause pain can be osteoarthritis. There are several types of osteoarthritis. The most common osteoarthritis in the shoulder is also known as "wear and tear" osteoarthritis. It is very common for symptoms, such as swelling, pain, and stiffness, to appear in middle age. Osteoarthritis develops slowly and as time passes the pain generated worsens.
